O Courageous Christ

What my idle, indecisive heart needs to see:

O Courageous Christ,
By the power of the Spirit,
You perfectly loved the Father.
Never paralyzed with fear,
Never frozen with indecision,
Your trust never wavered.

As the Lord of life, you showed us how to be strong;
As the Author of life, you died for our cowardly and willful rebellion.
Reconciling God and man, you turn spineless cowards into brave saints.

You tell us dear Lord,
‘Love God and do whatever you want.’
What freedom!
What hope in knowing that our every step is not a random choice,
But an ordained decision in your perfect plan.

You showed us how to say,
“Not my will, but yours be done,”
In the darkest hour,
In the shadow of death.
And so we say it and embrace your truths.

O Courageous Christ,
Renew our courage to follow you.

Tom, your pastoral heart has always shone through brightly in your artistic works. The Church is severely lacking in God-centered arts, and it’s a blessing to have you work on filling that gap in some small way unto the glory of God.
