Penal Substitutionary Atonement: The Trinitarian Character of a Biblical Doctrine

Some scholars argue that Jesus’ death on the cross was a form of “cosmic child abuse.” Written for a theology class at Wheaton College Graduate School, this paper is an apologetic for the Trinitarian and biblical character of penal substitutionary atonement, the doctrine that claims that Jesus died on the cross for the sins of humanity and bore the just wrath of God in our place.
