Estranged by Tom Schmidt

Estranged by Tom Schmidt

Here’s a song I wrote this past year:

ESTRANGED by Tom Schmidt

You are more than a pretty face,
You are more than a nice smile,
You are more than what say,
Your worth’s not found in these things.

You are more than a bank account,
You are more than a career,
You are more than being in shape,
Your worth’s not found in these things.

We were made for glory by the One who cannot die,
Who spoke the stars into existence and dwell in unapproachable light;
But we’ve traded in His pure glory for worthless things and things that won’t last.
We’ve estranged ourselves from the Living God.

You are more than a relationship,
You are more than a shiny family,
You are more than a big house,
Your worth’s not found in these things.

You are more than an education,
You are more than a reputation,
You are more than your success,
Your worth’s not found in these things.

We were made for glory by the One who cannot die,
Who spoke the stars into existence and dwell in unapproachable light;
But we’ve traded in His pure glory for worthless things and things that won’t last.
We’ve estranged ourselves from the Living God.

The gravity of our situation can be seen in the solution:
The sinless Son of God came and died on a wooden cross.
Jesus tasted death for us and paid the penalty: the wrath of God,
Reconciling sinners with the Maker of the Universe.
