A Catechism on Suffering

A Short Catechism on Suffering:

Q. What is suffering?
A. “Having what we do not want to have or not having what we do want to have” (Elisabeth Elliot’s definition)
Q .Why is there suffering in the world?
A. Because of the sin of our first parents Adam and eve, our sin, and the sin of others.
Q.What has God done about the suffering in this world?
A. He has sent his only Son Jesus Christ who suffered for our sins on the cross (1 Peter 2:22-25)
Q. Will a Christian be spared from suffering in this life?
A. No, a Christian will suffer in this life, but has hope that God uses our suffering for His glory and our good (Phil 1:29; Rom 8:28-29)
Q .Will a Christian be spared from suffering after death?
A. Yes, upon death a Christian will immediately be in the presence of Jesus and can look forward to eternal life.
