A Mental and Emotional Wellness that Endures

Ice cream, relationships, Stanley Cup victories, a job promotion, financial security, the reassurance of a friend–all things which bring us mental and emotional joy and wellness.  While wonderful as these things may be, there is a greater mental and emotional wellness that our hearts were made for: being in a restored relationship with the Living God.  When we have peace with God (the kind that comes through being reconciled with God through Jesus), we have a mental and emotional wellness that endures not only the trials of life, but even death itself.  Edmund Clowney says it best:

The Spirit of God has a program for providing the only mental and emotional wellness that can endure the day of judgment.  He gives the peace with God that comes with the collapse of a sinner’s self-esteem at the foot of the cross, and he gives the peace of God, in which the Spirit assures us that we are children of God in Christ.”
