Darkened Hour

My mother died of CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) back in 2009. Here’s a song I wrote about it not long after called “Darkened Hour.”

DARKENED HOUR
by Tom Schmidt

Got the call,
Came home fast,
Couldn’t bear to hear the news.
Only months to live,
What I wouldn’t give,
To make that not be true.

Ray of hope in the black sky,
You shine His light.
Comforter, how you comfort,
In this darkened hour.
I am thankful for His grace.
I am thankful for your face.

Moved home,
To help out,
It was hard,
I’m glad I came.
Her last days,
Here on the Earth,
Held her hand,
We loved her so.

Ray of hope in the black sky,
You shine His light.
Comforter, how you comfort,
In this darkened hour.
I am thankful for His grace.
I am thankful for your face.

Mother died,
Of CJD,
I want to hide and go away.
To another place,
Where she’s ok,
And we can stay, and never leave.
